Engaged!
I proposed to Christy today, and she said “YES!”
She was totally surprised and didn’t suspect any of it. Click the more link for the full Engagement Story…
I had things all setup to happen this past Saturday, outside at the Zilker Botanical Gardens (nice picturesque place in Austin).
It hasn’t rained here in Austin in like 100+ days (or so it seems), so I really didn’t coordinate a backup plan. I was counting on history to be on my side.
Well, I wake up early Saturday morning and it is rain city! I look up the radar, and there’s a big yellow spot centralized on my planned location. What to do now? I decided to try and convince Christy to go anyway, which isn’t the easiest thing to do
Me: We should go anyways, it looks like the rain might let up on the radar (as Jethro would say “False”). It might be fun to kick around in the rain anyways.
Christy: Really? OK? (with a “this guy is kind of crazy look on her face”)
[meanwhile, Christy looks up the radar herself]
Christy: No way we’re going to miss rain, there’s a huge spot over the area
Me: Nah, that won’t be for a few hours let’s just go and see.
I got her in the car, and we’re driving towards the Gardens. The rain goes from sprinkling to pouring as we get closer
Christy: Maybe we should just go to a coffee shop and hangout for a while
Me: Nah (looking straight ahead at road)
I start pointing out all the people that were in the rain, to act like its not a big deal. “Check out that guy running”….. “Those two are walking along”…etc. We find a parking spot, and there are lots of people in umbrellas trudging around this place. It looked to be some kind of event, as they were dressed up, so I pointed out “Yeah, this isn’t crazy. All those people are here doing this too.” We walk into the Gardens, and I guide her toward this covered gazebo. I tell her that we should hang out here for a while, and take pictures of the place. I try to keep her attention towards the back end of the gazebo as my friend Danny Doyle (dressed in a black raincoat, black umbrella, and carrying a soft black guitar case) approaches. It looked very Desperado.
Christy turns around and sees the person approaching “Oh, we should get out of the guitar guy’s way.” My friend Danny put down his umbrella, unzips the case, and then starts playing “Cosas de Enamorados” on his spanish guitar. I then began singing the song to her in Spanish, and afterwards got on one knee and asked her to marry me.
You know how the rest goes. And the reason I couldn’t postpone to another day is because my friend was going out of town on tour the following day, and it was already getting hard to keep stuff under wraps.
